English, Maths and Essential Digital Skills courses are all FREE of charge if you do not already have a GCSE grade 4 (or A*- C grade).

As we provide education for adults, many of the courses we offer have the option of doing some learning from home, which allows you to manage your time around work, childcare, etc.

For courses which are delivered face to face, we try to be as flexible as possible, offering some courses in the evening and at different venues, again to help you to continue learning outside of working hours.

Content and Overview
Our English courses enable you to improve your English skills. We deliver courses for all levels of English, including introductions to reading and writing, moving all the way through to an equivalent to a grade 4 (C) GCSE. We have different delivery models which include 36-week courses, fast track courses and intensive courses.
Before starting a course, you will need to attend an initial assessment. This will give us the information we need about your skills and abilities and will help us to decide which course and level will be most suitable for you.

Depending on your level of English, the topics you may study include:
• introductory reading and writing skills
• form filling
• developing reading skills, including analysing information for different audiences, formalities and purposes
• essential writing skills, including writing different types of text for a variety of audiences, formalities and purposes
• constructing sentences
• spelling, punctuation and grammar
• preparing, delivering and listening to presentations and discussions

We provide a welcoming learning environment with excellent learning resources and facilities. Tutors are experienced, well qualified and offer industry experience within their subjects. Learning may also be accessible from home via the Google Education Suite (Google Classroom) to allow learners to make progress.

Entry requirements
Before starting a course, you will be asked questions to determine your eligibility.
You must be aged 19+ on 31 August 2024 and be UK resident for at least 3 years to join this course & be eligible for funding.

Course Delivery
This is a face-to-face classroom-based course with live lessons and set teaching times.
You should be willing to join in with class discussions and activities and you must also commit to homework outside of class times. This may be on Google Classroom or paper-based.
You will be expected to complete an Individual Learning Plan to reflect on your learning and progress.

Attendance and Learning Assessment
Classes run regularly during the week. We try to offer a variety of options as we have morning, afternoon and evening sessions at different locations.
You are expected to attend every face-to-face class and online.
You have to be punctual, arrive on time and stay for the full duration of the class. If you have a problem and cannot attend, you must inform your tutor or contact our customer services team in advance.
You will be expected to undertake all of your course assessments and examinations. A charge may be levied if you fail to complete your course.

How to Apply

Your application will be followed by an initial assessment when your level of study will be identified. You will need to bring with you all documentation: ID, National Insurance Number, proof of address and any certificates for qualifications you have previously done.

Progression
After completing a course, you will be provided with information, advice and guidance about the appropriate next steps for you. We have a dedicated Careers and Employability Coordinator who can support you to plan for these.
