Understanding Autism - NCFE Level 2 Certificate

Content and overview
Our Understanding Autism course will give you an understanding of autism and the principles of supporting autistic individuals. You will use a person-centred approach and learn about the influence that positive communication methods can have. You will also gain an understanding of how autistic individuals can be supported to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

Course Details
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism, you are required to successfully complete 6 mandatory units:

Unit 01 - Introduction to autism
Covers what is meant by ‘autism’, and common misconceptions associated with autism.

Unit 02 - Using a person-centred approach to support autistic individuals
Looks at legislation and guidance, and the support networks available to individuals and their families.

Unit 03 - Communication and social interaction in autistic individuals
Covers the potential delays and difficulties in speech, language, and social development that can be faced by autistic people.

Unit 04 - Sensory processing, perception and cognition in autistic individuals
In this unit you will gain an understanding of sensory processing, perception, and cognition in autistic individuals and consider how to support their sensory needs.

Unit 05 - Supporting positive behaviour in autistic individuals
Looks at how to support positive behaviour and help individuals to develop coping strategies.

Unit 06 - Supporting autistic individuals to live healthy and fulfilled lives
Covers how to support individuals through transitions and life events, and how to access services, facilities and employment opportunities.

Entry requirements
You must be aged 19+ on 31 August 2024 to join this course.

You must complete an online induction, which includes online safety, before you begin a course with us.

Attendance and Learning Assessment
This course is completed via distance learning using Google Classroom.

You will be expected to complete all of your course assessments and examinations.

Cost
This course is free for most people. Fees will be discussed during your initial contact as you must be assessed for eligibility. Any available funding will depend on your circumstances. If you fail to complete the course, you may have to pay the full cost.
