Course Description
ESOL Language for Maths (Multiply
Project)
Content & overview
This ESOL and numeracy course is designed to develop the numeracy skills of
ESOL learners and to build your confidence in recognising and using numbers in
your everyday lives.
There are three units to study:
Unit 1: Introduction to number You will develop
confidence in recognising, saying and writing numbers and learn addition and
subtraction in the context of a bank statement.
Unit 2: Fractions, decimals, percentages and rounding You
will learn about money and how to read prices and use decimals in the context of
shopping. You will learn the names of coins and notes and practise saying,
adding and subtracting prices. You will practise shopping for bargains using
fractions and percentages and will have the opportunity to use them to calculate
supermarket offers.
Unit 3: Metric and imperial systems of measurement You
will learn the language for weights and measures, including vocabulary for
measuring equipment and metric and imperial units. You will follow a recipe
further practice of weights and measures in the context of reading a recipe.
You will need to attend two mornings per week for 4
weeks.
