NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health in Early Years - Blended Learning

Content and overview:
Do you want to support the mental wellbeing of young children?
This course helps you understand how mental health develops in the early years (birth to 5), and how you can support children’s emotional wellbeing from the start. You'll explore factors that influence mental health, signs of concern, and ways to create positive, nurturing environments.
It’s ideal if you work with young children or are interested in doing so in the future.

What you'll learn:
• The importance of mental health in early childhood development
• Factors that can impact mental wellbeing (e.g. attachment, trauma, environment)
• How to recognise signs of emotional or mental health concerns in young children
• The role of adults in promoting wellbeing and resilience
• Support strategies and the importance of professional guidance and referrals

The course consists of 3 mandatory units:-

Unit 1: Understand mental health for young children in the early years.

Unit 2: Understand the significance of attachment and adverse childhood experiences for young children in the early years.

Unit 3: Understand the role of the Early Years Practitioner in supporting mental health and wellbeing for young children in the early years.

Delivery method:
There will be an one hour Google Classroom induction session, followed by 3 face to face sessions at Ashby Community Hub.

Remaining course materials will be accessed on Google Classroom. You are expected to complete three written assignments  at a time convenient to you to meet the deadlines. You will also be expected to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP).

Suitable for:
The Early Years Workforce who work within the Early Years Foundation Stage, including school settings, childminders and family support staff.
This course is ideal if you:
• Work or volunteer in early years, childcare, or family support
• Are a parent or carer who wants to understand your child’s emotional needs
• Are planning a career in education, social care, or child development
• Want to understand how to promote healthy emotional development from birth

NCFE Level 2 Understanding Behaviour that Challenges.

Additional information:
You will not need a laptop with you at the sessions, a pen and paper/notebook will suffice.
